In general, it can be said that menthol is the most important component and is responsible for many of the medicinal effects of this plant.

Medicinal Properties:

Menthe longifolia L. is widely used in the treatment of sore throat and inflammation of the throat. It has significant antimicrobial activity, which is mainly due to the presence of oxygenated monoterpenes in these plants. It has shown interesting antimicrobial activity against Escherichia coli and Salmonella typhimurium, Listeria monocytogenes, Aspergillus flavus, Pseudomonas aeruginosa and the fungi Botrytis cinerea, Fusarium oxysporum, Aspergillus niger, Microsporum and Mucor ramamnianus.
