Damsk-rose is one of the most important aromatic plants of the rose species in the world and one of the most famous plants in the history of gardening. It has a high genetic diversity in Iran and is important in terms of ornamental, medicinal and export aspects. The flower is the most valuable edible part of this plant, and its products are consumed in various forms such as rose water, botanical jam and dried flowers in human food, and rosehip is used in the perfume and cosmetic industries.

Botany:

Damask-rose, from the Rosaceae family, is the most important species for the production of rose and rose water perfume. Due to the large volume of flowers harvested during flowering and their accumulation in factories and workshops for extracting essential oils, it usually takes a long time from the time of harvesting to the extraction of essential oils.
The main uses of rose essential oil are in the perfumery and aromatic industries, cosmetic hygiene products, including various types of cosmetic creams and sunscreen creams, sprays and colognes, lotions, soaps, shampoos, facial cleansing solutions and beauty baths. Rose essential oil is also used in the pharmaceutical and food industries.

Chemical Composition:

Although rose essential oil is a complex mixture of more than 10 different compounds, the main ingredient of the essential oil contains alcohol, the most important of which are terpene alcohols: geraniol, rhodinol, nerol, linalool, eugenone and a significant amount of estrogeranyl acetate.
The chemical composition of the best flowers is the Iranian rose. Contained in the epidermal cells of the rose petal, it has caused the various properties of this flower. These compounds consist of two parts: a solid part called stearopetene, which is a crystalline, odorless substance with a melting point of 33 degrees Celsius, and a liquid part that has a strong, aromatic odor and a slightly sweet taste, called oleopetene.

Medicinal properties:

This plant has long been used in traditional medicine to treat rheumatic pains, blood disorders, and sore throats, and is also very useful for treating menopausal symptoms, diseases and respiratory system insufficiency, mouth ulcers, insomnia, and depression. Its petals have a mild laxative effect and are therefore used to relieve constipation in children, the elderly, and patients during recovery. Other medicinal properties of the petals include anti-anxiety, antispasmodic, analgesic, kidney strengthening, blood strengthening, menstrual regulation, and anti-inflammatory.
