Dracocephalum:

Is a perennial medicinal plant of the mint family. This plant contains valuable metabolites that belong to two chemical groups including terpene and propanoid compounds with high antioxidant, antimicrobial and antiradiation properties.

Botany:

The medicinal plant Lemon balm is a perennial herbaceous plant, branched and erect, reaching a height of 30 to 80 cm depending on climatic conditions. The leaves of this plant are covered with hairs, opposite, elliptical, heart-shaped and toothed. The cultivation of this plant has been common among different nations of the world for the treatment of diseases since ancient times. Among the subspecies of this genus, only the subspecies officinalis has economic value and emits a fresh lemon-like aroma.

Chemical Compositions:

The antimicrobial and antifungal properties of essential oils have been widely reported and are attributed to the compounds present in the essential oil (cineole, camphor, linalool, alpha-pinene, beta-pinene, borneol, carotenoid, limonene, carvacrol, thymol, cymene, camphene, alpha-terpineol, etc.). The identified classes of compounds include monoterpene hydrocarbons, monoterpenes oxygenated, total monoterpenes, sesquiterpene hydrocarbons, sesquiterpenes oxygenated.
